Receiving HMRC PAYE forms

Back in v3.4.0 of Uniwage Payroll, we introduced support for the Government Gateway Secure Messaging Service (SMS), through which subscribed payroll users could download any PAYE forms sent to them electronically by the Revenue.

From April '06, this service is being replaced by the Data Provisioning Service (DPS), which will be run directly by the Revenue instead of putting pressure on the Government Gateway servers. It could also be argued that the use of the SMS system wasn't an entirely efficient way of delivering these messages to employers. It isn't just the server locations that have changed; HMRC have consulted with payroll software developers for several months (I personally attended some of the workshops) in order to redesign the system so that it serves its purpose better.

The result is the DPS, which is due to "go live" any day now. From the start of the 06/07 tax year, all electronic PAYE forms will be sent to the DPS, not the SMS. We have just finished developing this new service and it will be available in the next version of Uniwage. And, of course, we are currently in the process of having it accredited with the HMRC so that you can be assured it works to their requirements.
